MG Taguba retired on 1 January 2007 having served 34 years on Active Duty.
Upon his retirement, he served as Vice President for Army Account, SERCO Inc, the North America division of SERCO Group, a privately owned services company headquartered in London, England. He served in this capacity from July 2007 to Nov 2008. He was responsible for developing strategic programs in support of US Army Soldiers and families by providing enabling services comprising of human resource management support, logistical support and IT professional services throughout the United States and overseas locations.
Born in Manila, Philippines on 31 October 1950 and raised in Hawaii, Major General Taguba was commissioned as an Armor officer following graduation from Idaho State University in 1972. He has served in command and staff positions from platoon to General Officer level. His service tours included assignments in the continental United States, South Korea, Germany, and Kuwait with deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
Selected for Brigadier General in 1997, he served as Chief of Staff, US Army Reserve Command, as Assistant Division Commander, 24th Infantry Division (Mechanized) and as Commanding General, US Army Community and Family Support Command. Major General Taguba was then assigned as Vice Director, later as Acting Director of the Army Staff, Pentagon—responsible for directing and coordinating the staff actions of the Army’s Executive Offices and Senior Staff directorates within Department of the Army, DoD, Congress and Interagency elements.
During Operation Iraqi Freedom, he was assigned as Deputy Commanding General for Support, Coalition Forces Land Component Command (CFLCC)/ARCENT/Third US Army, forward deployed to Kuwait. He was responsible for overseeing the logistical and support services to US and Coalition Forces totaling over 175,000 troops with an operating budget of approximately $19 billion. He was also responsible for coordination of host nation support from the Government of Kuwait-approximately $800 million, coordination with the Government of Saudi Arabia for force protection to US forces deployed in Riyadh, military training support with the Government of Jordan and Egypt, and force deployment support with the Government of Qatar—all requirements conducted with agencies of the Department of Defense and Department of State.
Upon his redeployment, he was assigned as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs (Readiness, Training and Mobilization), Office of the Secretary of Defense, Pentagon. His responsibility encompassed policy oversight of the readiness, training and mobilization aspects of the Reserve Components-Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and the Army National Guard and Air National Guard in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Noble Eagle.
Major General Taguba is a graduate of Idaho State University with a BA Degree in History; Webster University with a MA Degree in Public Administration; Salve Regina University with a MA Degree in International Relations; and the US College of Naval Command and Staff with a MA Degree in National Security & Strategic Studies. He also a graduate of the US Army Command and General Staff College, the US College of Naval Command and Staff and the US Army War College.
He and his wife Debbie reside in Alexandria, VA. They are the proud parents of two adult children-Lindsay, who resides in South Carolina, and Sean, a US Army Captain who recently completed his 1 year deployment to Iraq.
